Sarah Merrifield
About the artist
Painter
When I was 6 years old I wanted to be an artist and was fascinated by the human face. At 19 I taught myself to paint in oils, but It wasn’t after retiring I found the time to pursue this childhood passion. I had the privilege to join a small group painting with Jeremy Gale from the Princes School, and later with David Cranswick who gave me a more classical direction and I now enjoy painting with friends who inspire me.
It is people who primarily interest me and for four years I drew portraits of the Homeless people at Crawley Open House until lockdown. When their funding was cut I produced a book of their portraits to help raise money for the charity.
My preferred medium is oil.
